GREETINGS!

I’m Jenissa, a writer, bibliophile, wander-luster and designer born and raised in Trinidad & Tobago. When I’m not celebrating the beauty of T&T/the Caribbean, I’m immersed in a good book, vibesing to some music or experiencing another corner of our amazing planet. As a textbook Sagittarius, I LOVE learning and adventure. Reading and travelling are the two main ways I feed my appetite for exploration.

Welcome To Trinidad & Tobago

Born and raised in this twin island nation, I was enriched by its beautiful tropical environment. I spent many a day climbing mango trees, playing cricket by the sea side and drinking fresh coconut water from my father’s hands. I also grew up immersed in cultural richness and diversity. I joined my Hindu and Muslim friends as they celebrated holy days with their families. I watched elders practise rituals rooted in African spiritual traditions and saw how these traditions lived proudly in our beloved Carnival.

I heard ancestral voices reverberate in the steel pan and the tassa drum.

I savoured local dishes that celebrated African, Indian, Indigenous Caribbean, Chinese and Syrian/Lebanese heritage.

However, it wasn’t until I lived in the U.S. and travelled to other countries that I realised how fortunate I was to have a childhood in such a place. It is this appreciation that turned me into a self appointed ambassador for Trinidad & Tobago. My passion for promoting Trinbagonian culture extensively shapes what I envision for the Ancestral Memory brand.

Travel With Me…

Whether visiting ancient sites in Morocco, braving the rainforest of Ghana or chatting with Mayan people on the way to a Guatemalan volcano, travelling the world has offered some of the most transformative experiences of my life. After seeing over 35 countries, my wanderlust and appreciation for our planet’s beauty have only grown.
