Silk Blazer & Leather Mini Skirt

At this point in my thrifting journey I focus more on quality pieces that I can see myself wearing for years. That means that instead of bringing home items because they are the hottest trend or because the price is extremely low, I mostly bring home items that suit my personal style and are made from natural textiles such as silk, cotton, linen and wool. I favour natural textiles because they tend to look better and last longer.

I consider it a bonus when the things I choose don’t only meet the aforementioned criteria but also happen to be ‘in’. Such is the case with this blazer and skirt. They are two of my recent thrift store finds and as soon as I saw each of them, I felt the buzz that comes with uncovering a gem while thrifting. Where do I start in explaining what makes me happy about them? The blazer is made from silk and has an exuberant citrine hue. The tailoring is on point and the neckline has that Eastern vibe that I adore. Plus, it feels so damn good. The same can be said of the leather skirt that is supple and buttery to the touch. The tan colour is timeless. It has been a while since I’ve worn a mini skirt but I feel comfortable in this one. As for the combination of the two pieces, the structure of the blazer pairs nicely with the A-line silhouette of the skirt; the silk pairs perfectly with the leather and the colours achieve a captivating, fun contrast. To up the ante colour-wise, I decided to add this red Dooney & Burke bag (also thrifted). My trusty pair of gladiator sandals and jewelry brought the boho element.

I am smitten with this ensemble but I am also looking forward to styling the separate pieces in other ways, I think they are both quite versatile. Let me know how you would style these pieces if they were in your closet.
