My Bedroom Reading Nook

After more than a year of being absent from this blog, I’m happy to announce that I'm back! And I’m back with the type of post that I’ve been wanting to share more of - an interior decorating post. I figured that featuring my bedroom reading nook would be the perfect way to ease back into blogging. These photos are not as sharp as I would prefer nor are there many of them. Still, I’m going ahead with publishing this post because I want to get back to blogging and to overcome my tendency to wait for things to be perfect before releasing them.

When I viewed this house during the home buying process, the main bedroom clinched the deal for me and a huge part of its appeal was the size. Immediately, I envisioned using one of the corners as a designated spot for curling up with a book. Creating the nook was easy and inexpensive since I already owned most of the items I used to style it. This bedroom is, for the most part, neutral in colour but there’s a lot of texture. As usual, I looked to Moroccan design for inspiration. Typically, I gravitate toward colour but I’m not averse to a neutral look when it’s done with enough visual interest. Moroccan interior design is the perfect reference point for doing neutral right. As Moroccans have perfected, natural textiles mixed with other natural materials like brass, wood & stone help a space feel warm, cozy & chic.

I can’t provide links to most of the pieces used in the nook because they were either thrifted or bought in Morocco. Nevertheless, I’m going to name them with the hope that you will be inspired to thrift your home decor or gather it during your travels if you don’t already. If you can’t travel right now, you can find unique, global and even antique items at the thrift store.

Here’s a list of the pieces I used in the reading nook and where I sourced them:

*Antique rattan chair - thrifted years ago from the Goodwill

*Side Table - bought in Morocco

*Antique lamp - also thrifted years ago from Goodwill

*Berber wedding blanket - bought in Morocco

*Brown geometric cushion - Anthropologie (sold out but similar here)

*Pink kilim cushion - bought in Morocco

*Malick Sidibe art print - eBay

*Brass vase - thrifted from the Goodwill

*Textured plant pot - Anthropologie

*Small candle - Anthropologie

Creating this little haven was the perfect way to maximise the room’s layout. If you read and you have space in your bedroom or elsewhere in your home, I recommend creating a reading nook for yourself. All you need is a quiet spot, a comfortable chair, a lamp & a small surface to rest your book and tea ( or wine). Bonus points if you can fit in a piece of art and a plant. Give it a try. I promise you’ll be glad you did.

Well, that’s it for now friends. I'm off to cozy up with a new novel!
