What’s Been Making Me Smile Recently
Amidst life’s challenges, I believe it is crucial to acknowledge its blessings. Blessings can be big events but more often, they are the little moments and simple pleasures that bring smiles to our faces. I believe that counting our blessings - big and small - helps to attract even more blessings into our lives. From a young age, my mum taught me that gratitude is a magnet. That is an adage I constantly embrace .
In this post, I’m listing a few of the things that have made me smile lately and for which, I’m thankful.
Decorating My House
A year and a half after buying my house, I am still decorating it. Even though I have not undertaken any major renovations, the process has still been a time consuming one. An enjoyable but time consuming one. Putting together a home that fits my taste, lifestyle and budget has been a labour of love and an exercise in patience plus creativity. As much as I want to see the finished product, I am doing my best to savour the process. It’s gratifying to see my vision gradually manifesting.
Meditation
Without fail, meditation always calms me and infuses me with joy. Over the past month, I have started back meditating twice each day for 30 minutes each session. At first, I wasn’t confident that I would keep up with it but I have. Meditating for any period of time is good but doing so regularly is worth the perceived sacrifice. With that said, I’m going to try to maintain the regimen for the rest of the year.
exercising
Although I pressed pause on taking yoga classes, I have continued doing some sort of exercise a few days each week (mostly jogging/speed-walking). The benefits that exercise has on our mental health have been well documented and recommitting to physical movement and fitness has reminded me of the mood boosting effects. Fingers crossed, I will be adding swimming to my exercise routine before the year’s end.
Exploring A Relationship
This one is the most exciting on the list. Typically, I don’t discuss very personal matters on these public platforms but I want to celebrate the good that I have been feeling with this person. It’s new (somewhat - I have know him for many years just not in a romantic way), but getting to know him more has been refreshing. Of course, there’s no telling how things will unfold between us, which is fine. I’m trying to enjoy the present.
What things have been making you feel happy? I will be glad to hear.
