Neon Green Body Con Dress

Body con dresses have never been a style that I have felt comfortable wearing. When I was maga (i.e. super thin lol), I thought I was too skinny for them to look flattering on my body. Now that I have some meat on my bones, I still feel self conscious wearing them. Case in point, this neon dress. I found it last year after we were out of lockdown. Even though I didn’t have anywhere to wear it as yet, I thought it was a cute piece to have. However, in order to wear it I would have to overcome my hangup about tight dresses. As the weather is heating up in Atlanta, I decided to take this number for a spin and confront my discomfort. I tried it on and let me tell you! I was not convinced. My belly was bulging. My legs were rubbing together. I wanted to wear a blazer or something else that would hide some of the rolls. I wanted to wait until I bought a waist cincher before donning it outside. Somehow, I managed to ignore that negative self chatter. Taking photos and sharing them would be part two of the exercise in loving the body I now occupy.

So, how do I feel now about wearing tight dresses? They’re definitely not my thing. The entire time I had this ‘freakum’ dress on, I felt awkward and continued pulling it down since it kept riding up. The biggest lesson this little exercise reminded me of is that sometimes comfort zones exist for a good reason. I feel most comfortable in dresses that have some breathing room and that shines through as confidence.

Do you feel comfortable wearing body con dresses?
